Just in case you didn’t know today is Acie Law IV Day. He will be honored during the game today against Oklahoma State and his jersey will be hung in the rafters. I am very excited. Acie Law is the first Texas A&M basketball player to ever be named as an All – American. His freshman year our team was 0 – 16 in Big XII play. The next year we made the NIT. The year after that we made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament, and his senior season we made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.

I watched some bits and pieces of the congressional hearing with Roger Clemens, and it makes me think of a few things. First off I think the whole baseball steroids thing is just sad. I am very skeptical of the idea that baseball didn’t know what was going on while Mark McGuire was breaking homerun records. I remember making jokes about those guys being on ‘roids and I was in high school. I think people liked the money that was coming in and chose to look the other way, and as a result we have the steroid era in sports.
My second thought about this is the fact that congress is taking their time and our money to investigate one athlete for a relatively minor crime when their is other big and important issues that need the attention of our leaders. To see Clemens signing autographs while he is supposed to be being deposed is ridiculous. My favorite was when the congressman asked “Rocket” what uniform he was going to wear in the Hall of Fame. Are you serious? It is bad enough that they are having these hearings, but this hero worship fandom is absolutely laughable. I am glad they took time from their golf trips to waste our money. This post is a little political and more serious than most I want to post, but I really kind of wanted to vent.

So I haven’t updated this in a while, which really isn’t that big of a deal since I don’t think there is anybody who reads this. I am sitting here this morning watching a little College Gameday, and debating what I am going to do today. I may go play golf, or take the dog to the park, or clean, or something else. I know that is all very interesting. So I am watching TV this morning, and I set my DVR to record the A&M basketball game today. I still find it hard to believe that we have become such a basketball school. Don’t get me wrong, we still love our football, as was evident by the coverage of signing day last week, but to see the crowds for just for a regular game, and the fact that we need a lottery to pull student tickets still floors me. I have been to several games this year and for a while I thought we were going to be unstoppable, but we have hit some bumps since conference started. We have picked it up in the past few games, but we have some tough games up ahead. Continue reading ‘Update’
