Manly Fishing

This probably is faked in some way, but I still think it is cool.  Maybe I should try this next time I want some fish for dinner,  If only I had a helicopter.

The New Apple Walled Garden

So I have been doing some reading on the iPhone and I came across this article.

He has some interesting comments about Apple’s use of opensource to build its product, and then locks down the updated product before they sell it.  None of this is really new to me, but it is pretty well layed out.  It makes me think some about getting an iPhone, but not that much.

Should I get an iPhone?

So in case you didn’t know it tomorrow the new iPhone comes out.  It will be faster, has a GPS, has a plethora of new apps to do all sorts of thing, has a fancy screen, has a great web browser, plays movies, plays music, cures diseases, creates world peace and so on… Well I may have embelished the last few but you get the idea.  Well every one that I have talked to that has one love it and doesn’t know how they did without it.  So this brings me to my dilema.  I have had my current phone for a little over a year and I have never been completely happy with it.  I have also been a Verizon customer for about 8 year and for the most part have been please with the service, but I always thought Cingular/AT&T had better phones.  So this seems like it migh be a good time to jump ship and get the cool new toy, but I have a few problems.  The first one is the cost.  The phone itself will cost $199 for the 8G and $299 for the 16G.  Now that alone isn’t horrible, actually pretty good considering what you are getting, and the plan isn’t too bad either.  The catch is I have to get out of my contract with Verizon which could cost $175.  Another issue is I am not sure I can go to a phone with no buttons, but again the people who have one seem to love it.  And here is the final issue I have, if I get and iphone, I have offically become a mac fanboy, and sold my soul to the Steve Jobs.  I am just not sure that I am ready to do that, but it is getting harder and harder as they keep putting our good products.  So what should I do?
