New Music

I am sitting here at Blue Baker this morning, listening to Pandora, and I have realized that I need some new music.  I haven’t really gotten anything new in a little while and I think I might need to branch out.  Plus I just ordered my new iPhone and it would be nice to cristen it wiht some new music.  I like all kinds of music except for stuff that yells at me and stuff where I cannot understand the words.  I am a fan of good songwriting, and simple production.  If the song can’t be preformed acoustically then I am usually not a fan.  Wel if you have any suggestions or ideas let me know.

I’ve been told my collection is fairly eclectic. A lot of the stuff I’ve bought in the past few years I’ve found on iTunes through the “listeners also bought” suggestions. Here’s kind of a singer/songwriter (slightly mellow) mix I loaded in the CD changer on a recent road trip:

Christopher Jak – Applause of the Rain
Matt Nathanson – Beneath These Fireworks
Zack Hexum – The Story So Far…
Pat McGee Band – Save Me
    Howie Day – Collide
John Mayer – Room for Squares

If it’s simple production you’re after, you might also check out the soundtrack to the movie “Once”, although you’d probably appreciate it more if you also watch the movie. I liked it, but I had to watch it with the subtitles turned on (very thick Irish accents).

I’ve found a lot of good music on cdbaby.com by looking through the new arrivals and then following the suggestion links. Some of the artists I’ve liked are:

    Breaking Laces
    Melissa Ferrick
    Charmparticles
    The Fossils
    Relay

Occasionally I’ll randomly buy a CD based on what the cover art makes me think it sounds like, but sometimes that backfires big time, so I wouldn’t recommend it. But if you end up in a rut with a bunch of music that all sounds alike, it’s a good way to shake things up… most of the time….

    Todd Snider- East Nashville Skyline
    The Avett Brothers- Emotionalism
Old 97’s – Blame it on Gravity (you might have this one)
    Hayes Carll- Little Rock
    Steve Earle- El Corazon

    these are all good.
