Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  I know its eleven days into the new year, but this is the first time I have posted something in 2009.  I haven’t posted anything since my trip to California in early December.  Since then, it has been pretty busy with holidays and traveling.  I went home  for Christmas.  It was really nice, I got to spend time with my family and play with my niece.  She is so different every time I come home.  While I was home we took a quick trip to west Texas for Christmas with my mom’s side of the family.  I got to drive from Lubbock to Plains in good old fashion West Texas wind storm.  It was fun to drive down the highway dodging tumble weeds and listening to the sand strip paint of the car.  I also got to spend a weekend at Lake LBJ catching up with some college friends.

I am excited about 2009.  I am not sure why, but I think it will be a good year.  The 2008 Aggie football season is in the past.  I was hoping for a good basketball season from my Aggies, but after the game at Oklahoma State last night I am not too sure.  I really want to take a trip this year.  Part of me wants to go someplace new, but another part of me kind of just wants to drive to the mountains and hang out for a week or so.  If anybody has ideas, I am open to suggestions.  Who knows I may try to buy a house this year.   I hope everybody has a good 2009.

Anaheim

So tonight I went to the greatest place on earth.  Where you might ask?  DisneyLand?  That might be a good guess since I am currently in Anaheim just a few blocks from Disneyland, but that would be wrong.  The place I found is the ESPN Zone.  Ok greatest place on earth may be exagerating a bit, but it is great.

I need this wall in my house.

I need this wall in my house.

This picture is of the TV wall in the bar.  How AWESOME is that!  Ok the food wasn’t all that fantastic, and to be honest it was kind of pricy for what you got, but they have TVs in each stall in the bathroom. (I thought about taking pictures, but I thought taking pictures in the bathroom was inappropriate.)

After eating, I took a little walk in Downtown Disney.  It is a bunch of shops and restauraunts.  My favorite was the Lego store where they had a life size Darth Vador and a life size giraffee both made entirely of Legos.  I looked some in the Disney store for some sort of souvenior, but I couldn’t convince myself to pay that kind of mony for that junk.  Maybe tomorrow I can talk myself into it.  I have never seen so many strollers in all my life.  Tomorrow I actually get to go inside DisneyLand so maybe that will put me in the spirit to spend some money.

Oh by the way the reason I am in California is for the ParentLink User Group Meeting.  Today we had some advanced training, and tomorrow there are a bunch of presentations then DISNEYLAND!

Election Day

I am sitting here tonight barely able to move from playing basketball, but I thought I would take a few minutes and let everyone know what is going on since I haven’t updated this in a while.  Things are going well, nothing too exciting.  Work is still really busy, but it seems a little better than it did before.  I don’t know if that is because things have slowed down a bit or just because I have become used to the hecticness (I am not sure that is a word.)  Halloween was pretty uneventful.  I bought candy and was prepared to for the trick or treaters, but I didn’t get a single one.  More candy for me.

On another note, tomorrow is election day.  GO VOTE!  Here is a link find out where you need to go to vote and other voter information.  Also you can get free stuff if you go vote.  I am not sure what I am going to do since I voted the other day and I don’t have my sticker anymore but I will figure out something.

Saturdays, Football, and Work

So I am sitting here this morning watching some College Gameday, excited to watch some football.  This has been an interesting season for football.  My Aggies are having a “rebuilding” year, but I think they will get better.  I am actually kind of a bad Aggie this year because I have only been to one game.  In fact, part of the reason I didn’t go today was so I could watch the OU/Texas game. (Don’t worry I will repent later.)

I also have to make sure I get a little work done today.  This has been a really busy year for us at BISD.  Normally by now I am able to get into the flow of things and my days aren’t so packed, but this year has been quite different.  I don’t know if it is the fact we opened two new schools, or if it something else but so far we have been crazy busy.  I have had to try to get some work done several Saturdays and it has not been uncommon for me to work from home on the evenings.  As I write this I realize that it sounds kind of like I am whining, but that is not my purpose.  I just don’t have much else to write about right now.  Alright well now that I have admitted I don’t have much to write, I guess I will go back to watching football.

P.S.:  Congrats to Hooper on the engagement!

Blogs and stuff

I have decided to changed the design of my blog back to something I had a little while back, except with a different header picture.  I like this design.  Its simple and clean.  I have actully had a few conversations with people about blogs and found that I have a lot of friends that have blogs that I didn’t know about; some of the whom I haven’t talked to in some time.  I used to be against the idea of keeping up with people online, because I believed that I should be good enough to keep up with them in person.  Well I obviously wasn’t following throught with that.  That is part of the reason that I finally joined facebook. So today I have been going through and trying to locate friends blogs to add them to google reader so that I can keep up with them better.  While doing so I found Jessica’s blog where she wrote a version of this same post that I am writing.  I also read the Montandon’s blog and saw the pictures of their cabin at camp, and it kind of made me sad that I hadn’t made it up to the mountains this summer.  So to all the people that I haven’t talked to in a while, I am going to try to be better about keeping this up to date so you can know what is happening in my life, and you should keep your’s up so that I know what is happening with you.  I still, however, think it is great to pick up a phone.

Ike Update 2

Well it apears that the worst of the storm has passed.  We came through mostly unscathed.  There was a lot of wind and rain, in fact it is still raining.  I also lost power for a little over 2 hours, but I had a lantern so I was prepared.  Most importantly Starbucks was open through the whole thing.  I haven’t been out yet so I don’t know much about the damage, but as you can see from the picture there are a few trees down.  Well I have football to watch.  Later.

Ike Update

Well I woke up this morning to access the damage.  It really hasn’t been bad.  It looks like the heart of the storm has moved east of here.  The wind has picked up.  They are showing pictures of fallen trees from around town.  So far the only thing that I have noticed is that my trashcan has been blown over.  We are going to get a lot of rain, but so far we haven’t lost power that I know of.  Well that is all that I have for now.  I am going to get some breakfast.

Situation IKE

So in case you didn’t know it there is a Hurricane heading this way.  Hurricane Ike is supposed to hit the Bryan/College Station area during the night.  Today has been an interesting day.  Bryan ISD canceled school, but essential employees had to show up this morning.  It turns out that I am essential, kind of.  I went to work this morning, did a few little things, sat around, tried to figure out what was going on, watched an episode of “The Office,” and then was told to go home around 11:00.  As for the actual hurricane it is still a little ways off, but some people here are freaking out.  Don’t get me wrong I expect wind and rain and to probably loose power, but I don’t think I need to prepare for the apocalypse.  For most of the day the weather has been pretty nice, partly cloudy.  I was outside a minute ago and noticed the wind has started to pick up just a bit, but not much else.  Here are a couple of pictures of the clouds at sunset.

I will update with more info later, provided I still have power and internet.

School, Football, & iPhone

Well I was informed the other day that I need to post something new, so here it is.  The reason that I haven’t written anything in a while is that I have been so busy at work.  When I got home I didn’t want to sit at a computer if I didn’t have to.  The start of school is always busy like that but I still thinks it beats having a real job.  I also recently took the mac fanboy plunge and bought an iphone.  It has been really nice.  I am not going to say things like it has changed my life or that it curse diseases (I believe that comes in the next update.), but I have not for a moment had any buyers remorse.  The only thing I wish I could change is that by giving money to Steve Jobs I kind of feel like I have given into the dark side of the force, just a little.

Besides all that I am very excited for the start of football season.  I was excited and nervous about my Aggies this season, but after two games I am just nervous.  I still think things will get better, but I just may take more time than I would like.  Things are looking really good on the professional front.  The Cowboys looked really good in their season opener the other day.  Well I am off to go play with my dog and watch some tv.  Later

PS:  I would really like my shows to get out of reruns.

New Music

I am sitting here at Blue Baker this morning, listening to Pandora, and I have realized that I need some new music.  I haven’t really gotten anything new in a little while and I think I might need to branch out.  Plus I just ordered my new iPhone and it would be nice to cristen it wiht some new music.  I like all kinds of music except for stuff that yells at me and stuff where I cannot understand the words.  I am a fan of good songwriting, and simple production.  If the song can’t be preformed acoustically then I am usually not a fan.  Wel if you have any suggestions or ideas let me know.
